COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers launched a direct express liner service connecting Zhangjiagang Port in East China's Jiangsu province with Chancay Port in Peru on Sept 12, marking China's first general cargo route offering direct service to the new South American port.

The new service links Zhangjiagang directly with key logistics hubs in South America, including Peru's Chancay Port as its primary destination, while also covering major Chilean ports such as Iquique and Antofagasta. This direct connection is set to significantly cut delivery times compared with traditional transshipment routes, offering businesses in Zhangjiagang and the broader Yangtze River Delta region a faster and more efficient logistics solution for tapping into the South American market.

The inaugural voyage was carried out by the 77,000-metric-ton multipurpose vessel GREEN SUAPE, which departed Zhangjiagang fully loaded and is expected to reach Chancay Port in as few as 32 days.

Zhangjiagang currently maintains trade relations with more than 140 countries and regions and over 700 ports worldwide, ranking among the top three in Suzhou for total import and export value. From January to August this year, the city's trade with Belt and Road partner countries reached 104.9 billion yuan ($14.76 billion), up 8.3 percent year-on-year.
