Leekr Technology, a leading provider of steer-by-wire chassis solutions, signed an agreement to establish its East China manufacturing base and R&D center in Zhangjiagang on Aug 28. With a total investment of 1 billion yuan ($140.04 million), the facility will be the company's largest production and research hub in the region.
Leekr Technology is among the first in China to mass-produce key components for steer-by-wire chassis systems. The new facility will significantly enhance the company's innovation capacity and large-scale delivery capabilities, while strengthening the local new energy vehicle (NEV) supply chain. It is expected to help position Zhangjiagang as a technological hub and manufacturing leader in the NEV sector.
Zhangjiagang has been actively expanding its NEV and auto parts industry, which now includes nearly 400 enterprises across the entire automotive value chain. Of these, almost 100 are major enterprises, with the sector's total output approaching 50 billion yuan. The city aims to double that figure to 100 billion yuan by the end of 2027, building a comprehensive ecosystem for NEV innovation and production.
