The 26th Beibei Cup Youth Football Tournament (Boys U12) began on July 16 in Fenghuang town, Zhangjiagang. It features nearly 300 players from 16 teams, including international squads — making it a historic first for the tournament. The event runs through July 22.

The opening ceremony combined sportsmanship with cultural displays. Young performers from Beijing and Zhangjiagang showcased traditional Chinese drums, a cappella singing, and an opera-inspired routine. A standout moment was children singing Heyang folk songs — an acknowledged national intangible cultural heritage — across the field. The event concluded with both Chinese and international players singing the tournament's theme song together.

Former Chinese national team players Zhao Junzhe and Yang Chen participated alongside Jiangsu Football City League players Zuo Junjie and Xiao Xuhui in a lively exhibition match. They led Team Zhejiang and Team Beibei, demonstrating their skills and team spirit.

Earlier that morning, more than 230 participants — comprising youth players, coaches, and teachers — attended a special forum. During the event, Yang Chen, Zhao Junzhe, and Jiang Kewei, the technical director of Beibei, shared personal stories from their football careers to inspire young athletes to pursue their dreams with passion and resilience.

Visiting teams also got the opportunity to experience local culture firsthand. Thailand's Muangthong United U12 team participated in an immersive cultural tour of Fenghuang town, guided by volunteers.

Alongside the tournament, Fenghuang organized a lively street fair with a football theme. About 40 vendors offered local crafts, seasonal peaches and pears, and specialty green teas, attracting residents and visitors. A live concert enhanced the festive mood, making a lively beginning for the Beibei Cup.
