Fortune Bakery, based in Zhangjiagang, has recently entered the German market by shipping batches of its newly developed Iced Plum Flaky Pastries — an ideal summer treat — to Europe. This marks the first time Zhangjiagang-origin pastries have been exported to Germany.
The key ingredient of the new pastry, "snow plum bits", is made from green plums that are pickled, sun-dried, and then mixed with shaved ice and mint. This results in a distinctive cooling sensation and a subtly sweet taste. This innovative blend marked a significant breakthrough, enabling Fortune Bakery to break into the German market.

Besides its seasonal offerings, the bakery's new Chinese-style pastries — shaped like pandas, bamboo, persimmons, and peonies — have become popular with international customers. These items, from design to packaging, highlight traditional Chinese cultural elements presented in a contemporary and attractive way.
In the first half of 2025, Zhangjiagang's Jingang Customs oversaw pastry exports worth 3.70 million yuan ($517,300), representing a 2.7-fold increase compared to the previous year.
Moving forward, Zhangjiagang Customs intends to further support local specialty industries by offering customized services to enhance their access to international markets and promote Chinese culinary culture worldwide.
