By 2026, Zhangjiagang's urban expressway project aims to complete a closed-loop expressway ring, improving urban mobility for residents.

Launched in 2020, the urban expressway system covers 59.3 kilometers in total. It forms a closed loop of four directional expressways (east, west, south, and north), intersected by two major axes: Zhangyang Road and the East Second Ring–Yangjin Road, creating a distinctive "field-shaped" grid layout. Several sections are already operational.

The elevated East Second Ring Road (Xingyu West Road to North Second Ring Road) opened to traffic on May 6. The Yangjin Road–East Second Ring Road expressway upgrade has now achieved 85 percent completion. By the fourth quarter of this year, the remaining segment — from North Second Ring to the Suyuzhang Road — is also expected to open, further enhancing convenience for nearby communities.

Upon full completion, the network will provide faster, smoother, and safer travel across the city, reinforcing Zhangjiagang's commitment to smart, livable urban development.
