The newly developed pipeline, with specifications of 813×14.3 millimeters and steel grade X60MH, was designed through comprehensive innovation — from optimizing steel composition and rolling processes to the careful selection of welding materials. The pipeline passed rigorous hydrogen compatibility tests, confirming its readiness for application in large-scale hydrogen transmission projects.
This breakthrough aligns with the rapid progress of the Kangbao–Caofeidian long-distance hydrogen pipeline project, a record-setting engineering feat set to become the world's longest (1,038 km), largest diameter (813 mm) and highest-capacity (1.55 million metric tons/year) hydrogen pipeline using X60MH-grade steel.
As the only private steel pipe manufacturer involved in the project's development, Shagang Jinzhou Pipeline has overcome key technical challenges and leveraged high-quality steel plate materials from its parent company, Jiangsu Shagang Group, to successfully produce the hydrogen-specific pipeline — injecting fresh momentum into China's fast-evolving hydrogen energy sector.
