Zhangjiagang's pristine ecological environment has made it a haven for birds, with more than 340 species recorded in the area—including several under national protection—making it an ideal destination for bird photography enthusiasts.

Jiyang Lake, located in the city center, is known for its clear waters and lush greenery. It has become a favored stopover for migratory birds, including the critically endangered Baer's pochard, a species so sensitive to environmental conditions that its presence is regarded as a "living indicator" of ecosystem health—underscoring the exceptional quality of Jiyang Lake's habitat.

In Tangqiao town, the Huangsipu Ecological Park encompasses an extensive area of 3,300 mu (220 hectares) and features isolated islands within the lake, which function as tranquil bird sanctuaries. The minimal human disturbance in these areas provides optimal vantage points for avian photographers, enabling the capture of a diverse range of bird species from the lakeside.

Shuangshan Island, a river island in the Yangtze River, offers vast mudflats, wetlands, woodlands, and interconnected waterways that form a true "bird paradise". The island is a well-known location for spotting the rare reed parrotbill, a favorite among wildlife photographers.

Changyinsha Modern Agricultural Demonstration Park, with its wide-open fields, woodlands, and along river embankments, is another hidden gem for bird lovers. Along the reeds, dikes, and even roadside streams, a wide variety of bird species can be observed — making Zhangjiagang a must-visit destination for anyone passionate about nature and wildlife photography.
