In November, Zhangjiagang introduced a specialized work plan to promote the development of "artificial intelligence (AI) + manufacturing" across the city, fostering new quality productive forces.
The goal is to achieve a 100-percent digitalization rate in R&D and design among enterprises above designated size and SRDI (specialized, refined, differential, and innovative) enterprises by 2027. The utilization rate of robots (mechanical arms) is expected to reach 50 percent, with the establishment of 20 "AI + manufacturing" application scenarios and over 25 smart manufacturing (5G) demonstration factories.
Some traditional manufacturing enterprises in Zhangjiagang have already embraced digital transformation, revitalizing the real economy.
For instance, Jiangsu Yonggang Group pioneered the AI-based automatic detection of steel macrostructure in the industry, raising detection accuracy to 99.9 percent and saving approximately 4 million yuan ($549,173) annually.
Jiangsu Dongdu Textile Group, another shining example, has gradually applied intelligent technology to design, manufacturing, and management, enhancing production efficiency by 20 percent, reducing production costs by 15 percent, and saving 15 percent in energy consumption during the production process.

Zhangjiagang is currently home to 30 enterprises in the AI industry, two big data industry development demonstration projects recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and one AI large model cultivation project at the Suzhou level.
