The project showcased Zhangjiagang's innovative use of e-health technologies, including the "Internet Hospital" and "Electronic Health Records". By implementing these technologies, the city has pioneered intelligent health management models that offer precise diagnosis and treatment while reducing medical costs. Key features of the project include the introduction of medication delivery services, remote consultation clinics, and out-of-hospital care.
The AFHC, established in 2003 under the advocacy of the World Health Organization (WHO), comprises over 180 member cities from nine countries, along with more than 50 affiliated non-governmental organizations and academic institutions. Since 2004, the WHO and AFHC have held biennial awards to recognize outstanding achievements in healthy city initiatives.
Zhangjiagang became the first county-level city in China to join the Western Pacific Region's AFHC in 2005. Since then, it has accumulated 13 awards, including "Best Practice" and "Innovative Development" accolades, making it the leading county-level city in China in terms of the total number of awards received.
