With an investment totaling 500 million yuan ($70.22 million), the project aims to develop its Zhangjiagang facility into a leading synthetic biology CDMO industrial base in China. It will provide high-quality contract development and manufacturing services across various sectors, including raw materials, biomaterials, food, and agriculture, cutting product development and mass production cycles by 30 to 40 percent.

Once operational, the factory is expected to achieve an annual fermentation capacity of 10,000 metric tons, manage over 50 CDMO projects, incubate more than 10 technology patents, and generate an output value between 500 million and 1 billion yuan yearly. In addition, the initiative is set to directly create over 300 high-tech jobs and more than 1,000 indirect employment opportunities.

Established in 2020, Suzhou Womei Biology is a national "little giant" enterprise and one of the pioneers in China for large-scale R&D and production of customized media. The company's products include customized media, cell and fermentation reactors, high-throughput equipment, and biochemical reagents. The company boasts over 80 patents and has achieved international certifications, such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001, ISO13485, and the Food and Drug Administration's Drug Master Files registration in the United States.
