From January to July this year, Zhangjiagang's exports to Africa surged to 4.56 billion yuan ($641.03 million), reflecting a robust 26.6 percent increase year-on-year.
In the first seven months of this year, Zhangjiagang exported 1.67 billion yuan in steel, 1.07 billion yuan in textiles and apparel, and 110 million yuan in packaging machinery to African countries, growing 73.8 percent, 12.3 percent, and 14.9 percent, respectively.
The city's private enterprises have emerged as the main force behind this export boom, exporting 4.1 billion yuan to African nations, marking a remarkable 43.6 percent increase year-on-year and accounting for 89.8 percent of the total exports.
Jiangsu Shayin Group, the city's leading foreign trade enterprise in the textile industry, is making significant strides in this regard. The group's rayon products, made from wood or short-staple cotton, excel in moisture absorption and breathability compared to pure cotton, providing African consumers with a more comfortable wearing experience. The group reported exports totaling $128 million in the first seven months, marking a 4.81 percent year-on-year increase, with nearly 65 percent of the exports destined for Africa.
