Many steamed cakes are associated with local festivals and historical tales, making them an important part of the region's food culture. The craft of making the cakes was included in Zhangjiagang's intangible cultural heritage list in 2015.

In the Heyang Mountain region, ancient quenching and forging techniques are used to create iron farming tools. Shashang bean pastry is a refined and improved version of traditional Suzhou-style pastries, and requires 18 manual steps to make. The result is a flaky, soft treat that is sweet but not overly rich, providing a refreshing taste. This craft was included in Suzhou's eighth batch of intangible cultural heritages in 2024.
