The "Meet Suzhou in Singapore" Culture Week, designed to facilitate people-to-people exchanges, opened in Singapore on Wednesday to offer locals a glimpse into Suzhou's cultural heritage.
Cao Zhongming, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, Jin Jie, a member of the Suzhou Municipal Standing Committee and the city's Chief of Publicity, and Zhu Jiang, a member of the Party Working Committee of Suzhou and Deputy Director of the Suzhou Industrial Park Management Committee, jointly inaugurated the Culture Week.
In his speech, Zong Changqing, a high-ranking official from the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, expressed that the Suzhou Industrial Park has become the most emblematic project of China-Singapore economic and trade cooperation.
This year, China and Singapore will collaborate to hold activities celebrating the park's 30th anniversary of development and construction. "Meet Suzhou in Singapore" Culture Week is the prelude to these celebrations, Zong said.
The Suzhou Industrial Park is a flagship cooperative project between China and Singapore. It has become one of the regions in China with the highest degree of openness, the best quality and efficiency of development, the most robust innovation vitality, and the most favorable business environment.
Jin said in her speech that the Culture Week aims to promote cultural exchanges between Suzhou and Singapore and that the event will demonstrate Suzhou's 2500-year history to attendees.
The Culture Week will continue until next Tuesday. It is organized by the Suzhou government, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, the Information Office of the Suzhou Government, the Management Committee of the Suzhou Industrial Park, and the Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism.
