Spring Festival boosts consumption in Zhangjiagang

During the eight-day 2024 Spring Festival holiday, 20 retail, accommodation and catering enterprises monitored by the commerce bureau of Zhangjiagang in Suzhou, Jiangsu province collectively achieved sales of 124 million yuan ($17.25 million). Among them, the catering sector saw particularly impressive growth, with 10 enterprises generating a total revenue of 14 million yuan, marking a 38.2-percent year-on-year increase.

The county-level city prepared over 260 cultural, sports, and tourism activities for the holiday, which attracted a total of 587,300 tourists, doubling the number from 2023.

As of Feb 17, the city's cinemas had accommodated 275,500 moviegoers, with box office revenues reaching 12.78 million yuan.

Benefiting from the appeal of cultural and tourism activities, numerous hotels in the city also experienced rapid growth. During the holiday, 12 hotels hosted 7,590 guests, representing a 42.37-percent year-on-year increase. Room revenue amounted to 1.87 million yuan, up 23.61 percent compared to the previous year.
