Zhangjiagang Port accomplished a remarkable cargo throughput of 252 million metric tons in 2023, marking a 3.3-percent year-on-year increase, with foreign trade import and export reaching 70.4 million tons, showing a growth of 9.58 percent.

This achievement is attributable to the port's efforts to create a favorable business environment, including advancements in channel construction and the opening up of more berths. Customs authorities have also implemented innovative practices to inspect imported cotton at warehouses. This novel approach not only saves enterprises 75 yuan ($10.47) per ton of cotton but also reduces clearance time by five days per shipment.

In 2023, Zhangjiagang Customs supervised 99,300 tons of imported cotton valued at $210 million, recording impressive year-on-year growth rates of 104.8 percent and 73.5 percent, respectively.
