During the three-day New Year holiday from Dec 30 to Jan 1, major commercial complexes in Zhangjiagang launched a variety of exciting activities, attracting numerous people from the city and surrounding areas and achieving sales of 79.27 million yuan ($11.11 million), a year-on-year increase of 61 percent.
The fireworks extravaganza and a carnival held by the Mall of Splendors helped attract a staggering 200,000 visitors, and the shopping center's total sales amounted to 22 million yuan during the holiday.

Wanda Plaza presented customers with a spectacular folk-art display of splashing molten iron, along with other cultural and entertainment activities, achieving a sales growth of over 50 percent year-on-year.

The consumption boom was also seen in the city's tourism sector, as it received more than 120,000 tourists, 2.5 times as many as the previous year.
The box office revenue stood at 2.38 million yuan as of Jan 1.
