Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, boasts a vibrant tapestry of intangible cultural heritage. Traditional dance and operas in this area have not only been cherished by the local communities for generations but have also been recognized on various cultural heritage lists.

Mobi Dance, a folk dance originating from regions along the Yangtze River, has a history spanning nearly 400 years. Similar to exorcising dance, it evolved from processions and rituals of temple fairs. In 2023, it was included on the list of intangible cultural heritage items of Jiangsu province.

The Yundeng Dance (cloud lantern dance), popular in Zhangjiagang's Xiangshan Mountain, comprises a series of performances including martial arts. During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), local artists further improved the art form. In 2011, the dance earned a spot on the Zhangjiagang list of intangible cultural heritage items.

The Horse Lantern Dance has long been part of the local Lantern Festival celebrations. Dancers usually ride bamboo horses and dance among colorful lanterns. In 2011, it was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage item by the Zhangjiagang government.
Xiju Opera, a major regional opera in Jiangsu, has deep rural roots. It depicts the everyday lives of rural communities and thus enriches their cultural experiences. In 2016, it was honored as a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage item.
