The Shanghai-Nanjing High-Speed Railway along the Yangtze River officially entered trial operation on Aug 16, marking a significant milestone in the transportation infrastructure of the region.

With the new line, the travel time from Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, to Nanjing, Jiangsu's capital, and Shanghai will be less than one hour.

The construction of the new railway commenced in October 2018. Spanning a total length of 279 kilometers, the route connects several major cities along the Yangtze River, including Zhenjiang, Changzhou, and Wuxi, and integrates with Shanghai through the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway. The line features eight stations: Nanjing South Station, Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, and Taicang.

The railway is poised to significantly reduce the travel time between the cities and counties in southern Jiangsu and both Shanghai and Nanjing. It is anticipated to facilitate business, tourism, and cultural exchanges between these thriving cities and foster more collaborative opportunities.
