A delegation of government representatives from Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, arrived in Bologna in northern Italy on Dec 12 to attract investment.
They were the first government delegation from China to visit Italian industrial companies since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Bologna was the first stop on the delegation's trip to Europe.
The representatives first went to Coveme, a world-leading manufacturer of polyester films and back sheets for solar panels, to talk with the company's CEO about a $30-million project related to motors of new energy vehicles.
The Zhangjiagang delegation's visit, said the CEO, strengthened the company's confidence in investing in China and said he hopes to visit China soon.
The delegation then visited Stevanato Group, a provider of integrated containment and delivery solutions for biopharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Novartis, and Novo Nordisk. The group set up its first production base in the Asia-Pacific in Zhangjiagang in 2012 and launched its China Center in the city in March 2022.
During a meeting with Stevanato's CEO, CFO, and president of its Asia-Pacific division, the Zhangjiagang delegation presented the city's industrial development and business environment. The two parties also discussed the company's business plan and investment projects in China.
Stevanato's CEO thanked the Zhangjiagang government for its help during the pandemic. He added that the group's China Center in Zhangjiagang, which is currently under construction, is its most important move in the Asia-Pacific region and that the company will continue investing in the city.
