The first Zhangjiagang Development Summit was held in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province on Aug 27.

During the event, more than 100 participants revisited the achievements Zhangjiagang has made over the past 60 years and discussed the city's future development.

Agreements for 145 major projects worth 84.76 billion yuan ($12.24 billion) were signed during the event. The projects include the regional headquarters of multinational companies and several functional institutions.

Organizations including the Zhangjiagang City Development Consulting Committee and the Zhangjiagang center for Shanghai academicians and experts were also unveiled at the summit.

Zhangjiagang has been ranked among the top three counties in China for several years. Its gross regional product in 2021 exceeded 300 billion yuan ($43.31 billion).

The city has been making efforts to attract high-tech projects this year to improve its industrial structure. Many large projects that have received investments by companies including Merck, Han's Laser, Lopal, and Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment Co, have been initiated in Zhangjiagang.
