The opening ceremony of the 2022 Yangtze River Culture Festival was held in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province on Aug 27.

Performances including folk songs and light shows were staged at the ceremony.

This year's culture festival will feature 10 activities to promote traditional Chinese culture and showcase Zhangjiagang's achievements over the past 60 years. The activities include exhibitions on historical relics and metal artifacts, forums, as well as artistic performances.

Ten plays about the Yangtze River culture will also be introduced for the first time during the festival.

Launched in 2004, the annual festival is aimed at integrating, sharing and leveraging cultural resources in the Yangtze River basin. The festival has since its inception organized more than 100 large cross-regional cultural events that were attended by over 400,000 people.
