Jiaotong village in Jinfeng town, Zhangjiagang has invested about 4 million yuan ($583,687) into the building of a photovoltaic power station and the installation of solar panels on 10,000 square meters of roofs on office buildings of its villagers' committee this year.

Cao Hong, deputy Party chief of the Jiaotong villagers' committee, said the station can generate 100,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity every month. The electricity will be largely used by Zhangjiagang Yusheng Heat Treating Co, with the surplus going to State Grid, a State-owned electric utility corporation.

The power station is expected to generate about 1 million yuan in revenue for the village, added Cao.

Thanks to the power plant, Zhangjiagang Yusheng Heat Treating Co, which consumes 400,000 kWh of electricity every month, can avoid losses caused by power rationing, which costs them 80,000 yuan a day, said Zhu Ping, the general manager of the company.

The photovoltaic plant is also expected to encourage enterprises and local residents to use clean energy, said Lu Yayong, Party chief of Jiaotong village.
