The opening ceremony of the 10th National Children's Quyi Gala took place in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, on Aug 7.
Quyi is a term for Chinese folk art such as ballad singing, storytelling, and cross-talk.
Eleven performances originating in Jiangsu and the Yangtze River Delta region, such as Suzhou pingtan, a form of singing and storytelling in the Suzhou dialect, and clapper talk, a traditional Chinese form of singing narrative accompanied by a pair of clappers, were staged after the opening ceremony.
Launched in 2006, the gala has been held in Zhangjiagang since 2018.
