The emergency medical center of Zhangjiagang First People's Hospital in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province will be ready for use at the end of this year, said a government official in charge of construction-related affairs.

Currently under construction, the 17,000-square-meter medical center will feature emergency rooms, operating rooms, electronic intensive care units, and inpatient areas, said Gao Long, director of the first project department of the Zhangjiagang bureau of public works. Medical equipment is expected to be installed starting in October, Gao added.

Su Yong, deputy head of the hospital, said the center will help transfer patients in severe or critical condition in a timelier manner as an airfield is built on top of the building.
