Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, has been strengthening efforts to upgrade its public transportation services to allow residents to get around more easily and boost the city's high-quality development.
As high-speed rail becomes increasingly popular for long- and middle-distance trips, Zhangjiagang had opened bus routes that directly connect the city's railway station with all districts by June 26, 2022.
Zhangjiagang has also cooperated with the postal service since 2020 to open two bus routes aimed at sending and receiving parcels for rural residents. A special zone to deposit parcels has been set up for buses running along the routes.
To date, more than 60,000 parcels have been shipped via the routes. Products made by villagers, including agricultural products, pastries, and shoes, have also been sold to other cities, increasing rural residents' incomes.
Zhangjiagang has also made extensive use of new energy vehicles to pursue green development, and the city is now home to 462 new energy buses, including 60 hydrogen fuel cell buses and 80 electric buses.
