Sanjiaotan village in Houcheng sub-district, Zhangjiagang has in recent years made notable progress in developing its economy and improving people's livelihood through leveraging existing resources and launching construction projects.
According to Ye Haoxiang, head of the villagers' committee of Sanjiaotan, the village's revenue has been growing for four years, and its disposable income in 2021 reached 13 million yuan ($1.92 million).
The ongoing Wenchang Primary School and Wenchang Kindergarten project in the village, which is backed by an investment of 210 million yuan from four villages including Sanjiaotan, is expected to bring in 7 million yuan in rental income every year to the village. The two schools are also the first public schools built by village-level governments.
Wenfeng Corporate Management Co, which is owned by the four villages, is also planning to start a neighborhood center project.
To improve basic public services, Sanjiaotan has built many facilities including an elderly care center and a 24-hour reading room. A 3-million-yuan medical center is also expected to be ready by 2023. The village has also offered subsidies to college students and people older than 60.
Efforts to improve villagers' living environment, such as renovating roads and beautifying rivers, have also been made.
