Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, has been stepping up efforts to improve its transportation network by adding new roads and railways.
Construction of the main body of the 30-kilometer Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge started on June 28. The 31.2-billion-yuan ($4.62-billion) project is expected to be completed within six years. The Zhangjiagang section of the bridge is 11.6 kilometers in length and will cost 16.1 billion yuan to build.
The bridge can reduce travel times between Zhangjiagang and Suzhou, Nantong, as well as Taizhou, and help with the city's integration into the Yangtze River Delta region.
The Suzhou-Changshu-Zhangjiagang expressway is also nearing completion and expected to be open to traffic by the end of 2022.
In addition, the second phase of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway, which has a length of 111 km, is currently under construction and will be completed by 2025. With completion of the railway, passengers and goods in Zhangjiagang can travel directly to Shanghai East Railway Station, Pudong International Airport, and Yangshan Port.
