Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, held an event on June 11 to celebrate Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which falls on the second Saturday of June each year.
The event, which was streamed live on the internet and viewed by 25,000 people, is aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture and encouraging the public to protect intangible cultural heritage items.
A promotional video themed on local intangible cultural heritage items, including Suzhou pingtan, chrysanthemum wine, Luyuan chicken, Gaozhuang dried bean curd, Houcheng bamboo weaving, Heyang iron farm tools, Heyang folk songs, and tiger-head shoes, was released during the event.
Zhangjiagang launched a campaign to groom internet celebrities in its rural areas and announced the start of efforts to recognize the seventh group of intangible cultural heritage items and inheritors. A nationwide country song competition was also initiated.
