Leyu town in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province is constructing a sheep farm and developing related industries to drive new economic growth.
According to Si Jian, a Party official of Qixin village where the farm is located, the first phase of the construction is expected to be completed by August. The 12-mu (8,000-square-meter) farm, which will start out with 1,200 sheep, aims to produce 3,000 sheep annually within the next two to three years, added Si.
The compost shed that will be built to make fertilizer for the 1,000 mu of cropland around the farm will help reduce costs and pollution and increase profits, said Si.
A wide range of tourism activities, such as sightseeing and barbecue, will also be offered near the farm in the future, added Si.
