A variety of activities have been held in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province to usher in the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 3 this year.
Among these activities is an online wooden pot racing game that will be available until June 5. Citizens can join their sub-district's team to participate in the competition.
Wooden pot racing is a traditional sport that is customary during the Dragon Boat Festival. It is similar to dragon boat racing but participants row a wooden pot instead.
Several sub-districts in Zhangjiagang, including Jinfeng town, Leyu town and the Zhangjiagang High-tech Development Zone, held activities on May 28 to share with children the customs and history of the festival. Other activities taught the kids how to weave colorful threads into decorative bands as well as make sachets, paper dragons, and zongzi, a rice dish which is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in leaves and usually consumed on this occasion.
