Zhangjiagang in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province recently released a report on the social mentality of its residents.

This is the first report of its kind to be released at the county level in China.

According to the report, the mental state of Zhangjiagang residents is mainly optimistic, healthy and rational. The locals have a relatively high level of happiness and a strong sense of security and justice. They are also confident in the city's future development.

The report analyzes the factors that affect people's social mentality and made suggestions on improving public psychological services and building a secure society. It also includes insights into the mental wellbeing of youths and teenagers in Zhangjiagang.

The report is a result of the survey conducted by the city and the Institute of Psychology of Chinese Academy of Sciences in the end of 2021. Experts collected 30,590 questionnaires online and interviewed 111 people face-to-face and one-to-one.

Chen Xuefeng, deputy director of the Institute of Psychology, said that carrying out surveys on the public's social mentality is necessary to improve psychological services, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic has left a significant psychological impact on people.

Zhangjiagang has taken multiple measures to establish a social psychological service system, including building educational museums, developing online platforms and forming associations, over the past few years.
