More than 600 combines are currently in use across 240,000 mu (16,000 hectares) of wheat fields in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province.
According to the city's agriculture authorities, wheat yields in Zhangjiagang are expected to reach 82,800 metric tons this year, with the output per mu reaching 340 kilograms.
Zhou Jian, director of a cooperative in Xingshi village, Fenghuang town, said the 1,130 mu of wheat fields owned by the cooperative can be harvested within a week.
The wheat will be transported to drying rooms near the fields to prevent them from going moldy. Fenghuang town presently has 35 drying machines that can process up to 300 tons of wheat per day, said Yao Han, who works for the town's bureau of rural affairs.
The town had also maintained its agricultural machinery including tractors, harvesters and dryers at the beginning of May to ensure the summer harvest.
