Multiple kinds of fruits produced in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, recently hit the market.
More than 4,700 mulberry trees planted in greenhouses in Yongli village, Leyu town have been covered with ripe fruits since mid-April. The mulberries will be available on the market until this year's Spring Festival, said Fan Hongqi, owner of a mulberry orchard.
Watermelons, which are popular in summer, have also been ready for sale since early May. The 8424 variety of watermelon, which usually occupies a dominant share of the Zhangjiagang market in early summer, is ripe for only 30 days after it flowers.
A kind of yellow-rind watermelon, which was first introduced last year to the Changyinsha Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park, also ripened recently. Melons grown in the park also hit the market in the second half of May.
Other fruits that are currently available on the market in Zhangjiagang include small potatoes, loquats produced on Shuangshan Island, and blueberries from Houcheng sub-district.
