The Zhangjiagang Freetrade Science and Technology Group, a listed port logistics company located in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province has been operating smoothly during the latest COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
Strict and effective epidemic prevention measures are being taken at wharfs and various departments, including those responsible for vessel dispatch coordination and production, have made plans to ensure that the unloading and distribution of goods is unaffected, said a wharf director.
The group has unloaded about 2 million metric tons of goods from more than 700 ships and achieved a container throughput of more than 30,000 TEUs so far this year.
The group has also made efforts to transform and upgrade its business. In April 2021, it worked with the Shanghai Clearing House to launch a settlement platform for commodities.
The platform is a safe and effective payment system for financial institutions and enterprises in the real economy and is expected to provide timely and cost-effective financial products for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, said Tang Yong, president of the Freetrade Science and Technology Group.
The platform currently involves 11 banks and has handled payments for more than 53 million metric tons of commodities valued at over 280 billion yuan ($44.1 billion).
