Zhangjiagang enhances water environment protection

Zhangjiagang in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province has been intensifying efforts to preserve and beautify its water environment.


The Department of Ecology and Environment of Jiangsu Province recently reviewed the water environment of 63 county-level administrative divisions or districts and Zhangjiagang, which has more than 7,300 waterways and take up 80.4 kilometers of coastline along the Yangtze River, ranked fourth among them.


In addition, the water quality of all drinking water sources in the city reached the required standard in 2021.


Zhangjiagang has made major efforts to improve its water quality and build a secure water system. For example, it has implemented a number of water projects such as water gates and repaired collapsed embankments. The city has also taken solid actions to maintain its drainage systems and treat sewage discharged by local residents and enterprises.


Moreover, Zhangjiagang has issued an action plan on building a water-saving society. It has been exploring ways of recycling water and improving the quality of drinking water.
