The groundbreaking ceremony for the Yangtze River Science City at the Metallurgical Industrial Park in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province was held on March 7.
With a combined 1 billion yuan ($157.17 million) in investment, the science city aims to be home to a cluster of high-tech businesses that have advanced technologies, make innovative products, and own independent intellectual property rights.
A signing ceremony for 36 high-tech projects related to sectors such as new materials, high-end medical equipment and digital economy was held that same day. The projects have a combined investment of 10.38 billion yuan.
The Metallurgical Industrial Park released a three-year action plan on attracting high-tech projects during the events. The Sino-South Korean (Zhangjiagang) Innovation Cooperation Industrial Park was also unveiled.
These new parks and projects are expected to help boost the innovation-driven development of Zhangjiagang, said Han Wei, Party chief of the city.
