An online launch ceremony for the China center project by Italian multinational company Stevanato Group was held on March 10. The project is the largest wholly owned one by Italian investors in China in terms of investment.

The center will be built in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province.

A leading manufacturer of drug containment and automated equipment in the world, Stevanato group has been operating the Ompi Pharmaceutical Packing Technology (China) Co in the Zhangjiagang Economic and Technological Development Zone since 2012.

To meet the surging demands in the Chinese market, the group signed an agreement with the development zone at the end of last year to invest a few hundred million euros to build its China center, which is expected to be its headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region.

The project will make high value-added pharmaceutical products and visual testing equipment and will include glass formation production lines. According to the original plan, the facility will have 32,000 square meters of workshops and 270 employees.

The group's existing plant in Zhangjiagang will also be expanded by about 7,000 square meters and see its capacity double by the end of 2024.
