The construction of supporting facilities of the Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge recently started and will be completed by the end of April, local media outlets reported on Feb 26.
Construction of the main body of the bridge will begin following the completion of this project. The 29.8-kilometer bridge is expected to be ready in six years.
The 7.86-km section of the bridge that spans across the Yangtze River will have eight lanes and a designed speed of 100 km/h. The rest of the bridge has six lanes and a designed speed of 120 km/h.
The bridge, which will have the longest suspension span in the world upon completion, is expected to boost the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
