Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province has been establishing rapid charging stations for electric vehicles.

By the end of 2021, the city's State Grid branch had built 16 charging stations with 85 direct current charging piles.

At one of the stations in a neighborhood, two piles can charge four EVs at the same time, both with a maximum power of 120 kilowatts. By generating a maximum output voltage of 750V, the two piles can recharge an EV in about 30 to 50 minutes, said Wang Jincheng, an employee with the Zhangjiagang State Grid branch.

Residents in the neighborhood and outsiders can use the charging facilities.

According to a government plan on the deployment of charging stations for EVs, Zhangjiagang will add 102 public and 25 dedicated charging stations by 2025 to ensure EV owners in the city can find such facilities within a 1.5-kilometer radius.

In 2022, the Zhangjiagang State Grid branch is expected to build eight charging stations in public areas and another eight in neighborhoods.
