Zhangjiagang, a county-level city administered by Suzhou, Jiangsu province, has been making full use of opportunities arising from the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region to promote the high-quality development of its education sector.

A number of education cooperation deals were inked in December. For example, the city's education bureau will work with the Department of Education of East China Normal University in Shanghai to build a training center for principals at primary and middle schools.

The bureau is also cooperating with the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to invite scientists to give lectures at Zhangjiagang schools.

Liangfeng Senior High School in Zhangjiagang and Shanghai Jiao Tong University also launched at the end of 2021 the second phase of their cooperation project which aims to train innovative talent.

During the first phase of their cooperation, the two schools established a science academy and a number of laboratories where the high school students can take college classes in advance. "In this way, students can improve their practical skills and learn at a younger age what profession is a good match," said Zhang Xinyu, vice-principal of Liangfeng Senior High School.

The high school has also begun cooperating with other institutes like Shanghai Tech University, Nanjing University, and Soochow University to provide more than 20 kinds of courses to its students, according to Zhang.
