Nothing beats a warm, glutinous, tender and delicious tuanzi during a cold winter. Homemade tuanzi, with its decent size and reasonable price, has become a major hit in Huazhuang, reminiscent of the old times. At the Huazhuang community of Binhu district, hundreds of homemade tuanzi shops have sprung up.
In one of the shops, some 10 bakers are sitting around a big round table mixing flour, making dough, stuffing filling, and shaping and loading the tuanzi into steaming baskets. Less than four minutes later, 50 tuanzi emerge. Put them over the fire and a rich saliva-inducing smell fills the room.
The white, green and yellow ones on the shelf are appealing in color and meticulous in presentation. Delivery services are also provided. The shop owner believes that these handmade tuanzi made of quality ingredients will be widely popular.
