  • Panmen Scenic Area

    Thi sarea sits to the southwest of the old part of Suzhou, with the Wugong Pan-Pacific Grand Hotel and Xinshi Rd next door to the north, and the Huancheng River to the south. It contains three famous scenic spots – the Land-and-Water City Gates, Ruiguang Tower, and Wumen Bridge. The new Panmen scenic area officially opened to the public on Sept 23, 1999. When the APEC finance ministers meeting was held in Suzhou, in Sept 2001, the scenic area’s Sirui Hall was selected as the venue.

  • Jinmen Gate

    The Jinmen (Gold) Gate was built in 1922, after the Nanxin Bridge (1921) to facilitate movement between Guanqian St and the Changmen shopping district.

  • Huancheng River scenes

    The Huancheng (around the city) River in Suzhou is a part of the old Grand Canal, encloses the city, and all its charm, like a jade belt. Suzhou began work on a project to protect the townscape and area around it in May 2005, and the first phase has been completed.

  • Tiger Hill

    This sits 3.5 kilometers to the northwest of the downtown area and has the reputation of being the most beautiful scenic spot in Jiangsu province. Su Dongpo, a famous Song Dynasty poet, spoke fondly of Tiger Hill, saying, “It’s a pity not to visit Tiger Hill when travelling in Suzhou.”

  • Fengqiao scenic resort

    The Fengqiao (Maple Bridge) resort sits in a scenic spot, alongside a river, 3.5 kilometers to the west of downtown Suzhou, and is known for its historical relics.

  • Chuodun

    The Chuodun site, the village of Zhengyi Chuodun, Jiangsu province, contains relics of the Majiabang, Songze, Liangzhu, and Maqiao cultures on a 400,000-square-meter piece of ground, with a central area of 290,000 sq m.

  • Baodai Bridge

    The Baodai (Precious Belt) Bridge was built by Wang Zhongshu, a magistrate of Suzhou prefecture during the time of the Yuanhe emperor of the Tang Dynasty (805-820). To raise money to finance the bridgework, Wang used his expensive belt, hence the name.
