The Taihu Film and Culture Industry Investment Summit kicked off on May 20 at Wuxi Studios, a national filmmaking base.

Sponsored by Jiangsu provincial departments of film and art, representatives from the government and related enterprises spoke about the use of digital technology to promote change and innovation in the Chinese film industry as well as the measures that would help film-related businesses weather the novel coronavirus epidemic.

The summit also acted as an exchange and cooperation platform for integrating the development of film and television with the latest technologies.

Three digital innovation platforms built by Wuxi Studios and People.com, Huawei and People's Joyworks were launched during the opening ceremony. These platforms are aimed at building an industrial chain for digital technology filming and production and its derivative industries.

Wuxi Studios has been working to promote the economic benefits of the culture and film industry. A TV program named One Shop One Dream (《我想开个店》) was launched at last year's Taihu summit, inviting Chinese pop stars to open shops in Wuxi. The program became a hot topic, with total sales of derivative products exceeding 400 million yuan ($56.3 million).

Wuxi Studios also announced a talent training program with Nanjing University of the Arts to provide more opportunities for college students pursuing film and TV as a career.

Wuxi has designated the film and TV industry as a focus of development in recent years, and has been formulating a number of supportive measures for the industry. In February, Wuxi released a slew of measures to support the film industry during the epidemic, including tax cuts and a reduction or waiver of rent for all companies at Wuxi Studios.
