Chinese athletes performed strongly at the Wushu Sanda Championship held at Wuxi Sports Centre in Binhu district on Aug 10.

Seven Chinese players competed with seven foreign players from countries such as Thailand, Brazil and Russia and earned a final score of 6:1.

Wushu is a full-contact Chinese martial art. Sanda is a modern fighting method that combines kickboxing and wrestling in addition to grappling techniques.

The players all showcased their prowess on the field, offering up a worthy spectacle to visitors.

"We hope the event will promote martial arts among residents and encourage them to stay fit," said Xu Xinyu, vice director of Binhu, at the championship.
