Colorful events embrace Spring Festival wishes

In celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year, residents in Wuxi's Binhu district are taking part in a variety of events featuring Chinese intangible cultural heritages and folk art.

The lunar New Year, the Year of the Pig in the Chinese calendar, officially falls this year on Feb 5.

Spring Festival is the most important festival for all Chinese and regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the New Year vary widely. People in modern China still prefer traditional ways of celebrating the holiday, including decorating windows and doors with red paper-cuttings and couplets with wishes for good fortune and happiness, wealth, and longevity, wearing red and eating dumplings.

Some 20 students learn traditional Wuxi Spring Festival customs in the residence of Xu Mengying, the revolutionary martyr, and pose for a group photo.
