Five science and technology projects originating from Binhu-based enterprises won National Science and Technology Awards in Beijing on Jan 8.

With one winning second prize in the National Technological Invention Awards and four second prize in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, Binhu district stood out among regions of the same type around the nation.

Thanks to the rapid development of the internet of things (IoT) industry in Binhu, the projects, named "urban multi-mode public transport network collaborative design and intelligent service" and "key technologies and applications of cooperative sensing and linkage control for large-scale road network traffic", were listed as second prize winners in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.

The two projects provide solutions to the lack of coordination and inefficiency issues in the current urban public transport system, and have already been applied in cities in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The Freshwater Fisheries Research Center (FFRC) of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, located in Wuxi's Binhu district, took part in an innovation and application of conservation technology project in the mouth of the Yangtze River, which also won second prize in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.

A project by Jiangnan University and the Shanghai-based Bright Dairy Group on the innovation and industrial application of lactobacillus plantarum won second prize in National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.
