Canal Bund Art Gallery meets "homesickness" for industry

No 11, Hubin Road was originally the remnant of Kaiyuan Machine Tool Plant, which was established by the Rong family in the 1940s. Five industrial building heritages of different historical periods here were transformed into the Wuxi National Industry and Commerce Archive and a comprehensive cultural complex with such functions as creativity, design and display.

The Canal Bund Art Gallery has a gray-white wavy shape, which is quite striking against the surrounding red brick houses. It is said that its designer, Kengo Kuma, an international architect, intended to connect the past and the future through this new building.

The Contemporary Image Art Exhibition and the 2nd Anonymous Youth Photography Nomination Exhibition are on dhow in the gallery until Nov 16, with the title of Homesickness in the Age of the Big Data Industry.

Wuxi's business and industrial tradition continues to make world-renowned achievements, leaving many industrial relics. To retain the industrial memory of nearly a century, photographers in Wuxi have been recording abandoned plants, workshops, machines and workers over the past 10 years.

To support this high-end exhibition, photographers Lin Lu and Luo Dawei will deliver professional academic lectures about documentary photography from 1 pm to 5 pm Nov 11.
