The Gourmet Festival and Cooking & Service Skills Competition has been held for nine sessions in Helie subdistrict, Wuxi’s Binhu district. Recently, the competition has seen some changes. For star-level restaurants or popular restaurants, for traditional or innovative cuisines, high-grade ingredients have withdrawn from the competition, and residents are serving as judges and playing the leading role. This is not judge a change in competition system, but catering industry is undergoing a brand new era of grand transformation and reform. The positive energy originating from expansion, innovation and breakthrough will constitute leading melody for economic development of Helie catering industry.

“We’re expecting all catering businesses to adjust and improve their development strategies quickly, transform from ‘industry winner’ to ‘industry leader’, develop Helie’s ‘catering industry’ from scattered pattern to brand agglomeration, and realize the strong rise of this new economic growth point” , said Su Jianliang, Secretary of Helie Subdistrict Party Working Committee.

“In the first half of this year, Helie catering industry created the business volume of 300 million Yuan and the tax revenue of over 15 million Yuan. Catering industry tax revenue accounts for 1/3 of the total revenues of Helie Subdistrict”, Su said.

Such performance does not make Helie people arrogant, but enables them to think about the future development direction of this “flourishing” industry more rationally and profoundly. Su believes, Helie currently is not only confronted with “double tasks” of maintaining rapid growth and transforming development mode, but also faces lots of pressures and difficulties. Helie catering industry shall not only develop “stably” to maintain the “quantitative” growth, but also “transform” well and accelerate the “qualitative” improvement, thus promote the agglomeration of “catering industry” and make further giant strides towards structural adjustment.
