That same day, the organizers arranged an exhibit of the final entries and helped students discuss their ideas. Besides, this year did indeed see a variety of ideas, from a face recognition device and intelligent system, to online education and social networking.

A team from Nanjing University of Post and Telecommunications brought with them the face recognition system, called Homing, designed to locate lost children and get them back home. The students got the idea from the increasing news reports of missing children in China and the inefficiency of existing searches. So, they combined face recognition technology with batch processing to provide an instantaneous, convenient product. The team had five students, two of them from ethnic groups, which they explained, “helped us communicate and understand each other better”. They’re also working on a Uyghur version of the product.
