Mi Lou (the enchanted tower)

Mi Lou, located beside Zhenfeng Bridge, was originally known as Deji Restaurant. Li Defu, the owner, came from Zhengjiang province. He moved with his family to Zhouzhuang at the end of Emperor Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty. Since he was good at cooking delicious food, Li opened up a restaurant.

The husband and wife were over 40 years old when they had a daughter, A Jin. When the girl grew up, she became famous for her peerless beauty in Zhouzhuang. A Jin refused to bind her feet, even though foot binding was a common practice in those days. She was known as Da Jiao Guan Yin (a pretty girl with big feet). She was wooed by countless suitors.

The old couple was reluctant to marry the daughter far away, so A Jin lived with her parents by selling wine and taking care of customers in the restaurant. Because the business ran so well, the restaurant was hailed as Mi Lou (the enchanted tower).
